In India, a neonatal intensive care unit caught fire.
In the northern region of India, ten babies died in a fire in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi district.
This was reported by Reuters.
The fire caused burns and suffocation in the children who were in the ward. The incident happened late in the evening on November 15. The hospital is located approximately 280 km from Lucknow, the administrative center of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the deputy chief minister of the state, Brajesh Pathak, 38 of the 49 babies were saved. The victims were immediately hospitalized in other medical institutions. Seven of the dead have already been identified, work on the identification of the other three is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
