Tomorrow, November 18, in the Orthodox calendar the day of commemoration of the holy martyrs Plato and Romanus. Plato was born in Ankyra (modern Ankara, Turkey) into a Christian family and was the brother of the holy martyr Antiochus, a physician. He is known for his devotion to Christianity since his youth. Plato actively preached the word of God, opposing paganism, for which he attracted the attention of the Roman rulers, who saw him as a threat. During the persecution of Christians in the 3rd century, he was arrested and brought to the ruler Agrippina.

When Plato was forced to renounce his faith, he refused and resolutely continued to preach Christ. Agrippina, in order to intimidate him, subjected him to cruel torture: Plato was beaten, tortured by hunger, tried…
