A young couple are furious that their daughter has become “legally a boy” after her birth certificate was mistakenly given the wrong gender.

Ewan Murray and Grace Bingham say they have been unable to correct an error in five-week-old Lyla's documents despite contacting state registration authorities. The mistake happened when the new parents went to register Lyla's birth at the Sutton-in-Ashfield registry office in the UK.

Grace, 20, said: “It's horrible, it's destroyed me. I've been crying non-stop, it's not what you'd ever expect.”
