The Ukrainian leader noted that he considers such contacts acceptable if they have some benefit.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky knew in advance about the call from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin. However, he maintains contacts with the Russian Federation only at the intelligence level.
As Zelensky said in an interview with the American Fox News channel, during the meeting Scholz told him that he was going to call Putin. The Ukrainian president believes that such a conversation would be useful if its results were clear:
“What did the chancellor get from this call? Nothing. Nothing new… We are fighting not only with weapons, but also with diplomacy. Diplomacy is very important. And only diplomacy can put an end to this war,” Zelensky said.
