A man whose mother donated his kidney to him has celebrated the 100th anniversary of his organ.

In 1975, when Ken Reese was in high school, he had kidney disease, and his mother, Doris, gave her son a new lease of life by donating one of her kidneys. Although Doris died in 2012 at the age of 88, her kidney is still functioning in her son's body after all these years. On November 18, Doris would have turned 100 years old, and although she is gone, the woman's kidney is “very much alive and well.”
What makes this story even more amazing is the fact that the average kidney transplant takes 10-15 years. But Ken has had his mother's kidney for almost half a century, which has allowed him to go to college, get married and start a family.
