Turkey's closure of the straits became a strategic step for the defense of Ukraine, preventing Russia from using its naval advantage to capture Odessa.
Since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Turkey, in accordance with the Montreux Convention, has closed the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits, which prevented the aggressor from using the sea advantage to capture Odesa, Mykolaiv and other territories.
