Tomorrow, November 27, in the Orthodox calendar the day of commemoration of the holy great martyr Jacob the Persian. Yakov came from a rich and noble family. His family and surroundings were Christian, and he also professed this faith. However, in order to win the favor of the Persian king Izdigerd I, Jacob renounced Christianity and took part in pagan rituals. Thanks to this, he gained respect at court and achieved a high position.
His wife and mother, deeply saddened by such apostasy, wrote him a letter in which they exposed his betrayal of the faith and urged him to repent. Under the influence of this letter, Jacob realized his guilt, repented and decided to return to Christianity, ready even to martyrdom for his faith….
