From the new year, the price of a pack of cigarettes will increase by UAH 40.
The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy has generally supported the government draft law No. 11090 on the increase of excise taxes on cigarettes. The legislative initiative was supported by 18 members of the committee, only one abstained “due to the changing position of the Ministry of Finance”.
This was reported by the first deputy chairman of the committee, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who, in fact, did not vote.
In particular, the bill envisages a gradual increase over the course of four years in the rates of excise tax on tobacco products in view of the minimum level determined by the European Union Directive 2011/64.
“The excise tax on cigarettes is pegged to the euro, not the hryvnia. The rates themselves are in the table. In fact, starting in the new year, cigarettes will cost 40 hryvnias more,” said the People's Deputy.
