TikTok introduces restrictions on the use of beauty filters for teenagers – Science and IT

Teens will no longer be able to use beauty filters on TikTok.

TikTok plans to increase security by blocking registration for people under 13. In addition, restrictions on the use of beauty filters are introduced for teenagers, which can cause anxiety and lower self-esteem due to artificial changes in appearance.

TikTok representatives announced these changes at a security forum in Dublin, The Guardian reports.

In the coming weeks, young people under the age of 18 will be prohibited from using filters that artificially enlarge eyes, lips, or change skin color and texture. However, filters that add comic elements like bunny ears or dog noses will remain available.

The effectiveness of these restrictions will depend on how many users are actually under the age limit, as not everyone adheres to age restrictions.
