Rutte said whether NATO and Trump will be able to bring Putin to the negotiating table
According to the NATO Secretary General, Ukraine does not have a strong enough position to start negotiations with the Russian Federation on ending the war.
NATO countries and newly elected US President Donald Trump will be able to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table when Ukraine has a stronger position.
This belief was expressed by the Secretary General of the Alliance, Mark Rutte, reports The Hill.
NATO Secretary General noted that it should be ensured that “Ukrainians can discuss the future of their country from this position of strength.” At the same time, Rutte added: “But they will only do it when they feel they can get something out of it.”
The head of the Alliance is sure that NATO and the Trump administration will convince Putin to start negotiations:
“We will be able to bring Putin to the negotiating table, because he will feel that, after all, it is in his interests not to continue the struggle.”
