The potatoes have turned green – is it possible to eat such a vegetable or not?
Potatoes can accumulate harmful toxins, a nutritionist has warned.
If the potatoes turn green, it means they have formed a toxin called solanine.
Small green spots can be cut off and then used as a vegetable, says Ellen Shoemaker, director of outreach and extension for Safe Plates at North Carolina State University (USA), Huffpost.
The expert noted that if large green spots appear on the potatoes, it is better to throw away the root crop.
According to the interlocutor, solanine can cause headaches, as well as vomiting and other symptoms of digestive upset.
