Exactly how many people returned is a debatable question, but there are definitely such people, there are quite a few of them.
Some Ukrainians actually return to the occupied territories. But their number is not so great. Mostly these are older people and mostly women. Spiegel writes about this.
The publication notes that many of these people want to sell their own surviving real estate. In the spring, Russia began to provide a pseudo-legal form of expropriation of Ukrainian property in the occupied territories. Owners were given a short period of time to either physically begin using their property again or sell it. Otherwise, houses and apartments will be “nationalized.”
