Ukraine has opportunities to increase electricity imports from Europe, but this requires changes in market regulation.
This was announced by the head of the subcommittee on energy saving and energy efficiency of the committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on energy and housing and communal services, Serhiy Nagornyak.
According to Nagornyak, Ukraine currently imports only a small amount of electricity from Europe – only 400 MW. The main obstacle is the upper price cap set by the regulator.
“The regulator has set an upper price cap, which is currently lower than the price in Europe. And electricity from Europe will not come to us,” Nagornyak explained.
He also proposed to temporarily remove price caps, which will allow to attract additional electricity and reduce the number of hours of blackouts in the homes of Ukrainians.
