Scientists discovered volcanism on the far side of the Moon – Science and IT
Scientists have discovered evidence of volcanism on the far side of the Moon 2.8 billion years ago.
For the first time, scientists have analyzed lava samples taken from the far side of the Moon and found that volcanic eruptions took place there 2.8 billion years ago. One side of the Moon always faces the Earth, so the reverse side remains less explored. Only two devices, both Chinese, were able to reach this part of the satellite.

In November 2024, scientists published a study in the journal Science detailing the analysis of samples brought to Earth by the Chang'e 6 mission. This mission for the first time collected more than 1.9 kg of rocks from the South Pole-Aitken Basin, located on the far side of the Moon .
