After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Italy approved nine aid packages, including two Franco-Italian SAMP/T air defense systems.

Sources told Reuters that Prime Minister Georgie Maloney's government was likely to approve the 10th package by the end of December, but declined to give details. Until now, the supply process was a state secret.
