Self-check-in at Airbnb is canceled in Italy

Italian cities have decided to clear out key safes that homeowners leave for tourists to check in to.

Tourists in Italy who rent apartments through services such as Airbnb or Booking.com will no longer be able to check in on their own – the owners of the accommodation will be required to meet them in person to confirm their identity and carry out the registration procedure. Within 24 hours of check-in, they will be required to send the guests' personal details and copies of their documents to the police.

According to Euronews Travel, Italian authorities have decided to introduce a ban on key lock boxes, which landlords leave for guests to check in, amid mass protests from local residents. In large cities such as Rome, Florence and Milan, it has reached the point where the townspeople…
