Ukraine risks overpaying up to UAH 140 billion annually for electricity if the state refuses to complete the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant. Economist Boris Kushniruk stated this, emphasizing the importance of implementing this project.

According to him, nuclear energy is the cheapest source of electricity for the country. One nuclear power plant unit is capable of producing 7.2 billion kWh of electricity annually at a price of 1.70 UAH per kWh, which is equivalent to 12.4 billion UAH per year. But the same amount of electricity obtained from gas generation will cost UAH 72 billion, and from solar power plants – about UAH 60 billion.
