Spanish babies are developing “werewolf syndrome” after their parents take a popular over-the-counter hair loss remedy – a dozen cases since last year, according to a new report.

The Pharmacovigilance Center of Navarra found 11 cases of hypertrichosis – commonly known as “werewolf syndrome” – in babies across Spain and found that each of their parents had used 5% minoxidil topical.
Babies who developed hypertrichosis had downy hair on their backs, legs and faces, and in extreme cases could resemble Wookiees from Star Wars.
The researchers believe that 5% minoxidil, which is used by the babies' parents, gets into the babies' bodies both topically and orally, the report said.
