The 23-meter tall Norwegian spruce will be decorated with 50,000 lights and a crown with Swarovski crystals.
In New York, the most famous Christmas tree in the world was lit near Rockefeller Center. Crowds of people gathered for the opening ceremony, reports Independent.
This year, the main Christmas tree is decorated with fifty thousand colorful lights and topped with a crown with three million Swarovski crystals.
A giant 23-meter-tall Norway spruce was felled last month in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. This is the first major tree from this state since 1959.
The tree will be lit from 5 a.m. to midnight until mid-January. And on Christmas Eve it will burn for 24 hours. After the holiday season, the tree will be used as lumber for Habitat for Humanity.
