Ukraine must attract young people and women into the army,
Military analyst and former commander of the US Army in Europe Ben Hodges believes that the conscription age in Ukraine is too high.
In an interview with Hromadsky, he said that at the beginning of a full-scale war he was surprised by the lack of mobilization of young people. “In my opinion, the conscription age in Ukraine is too high. In most countries in the world you can enlist in the military as early as 18 or 19 years old,” Hodges said.
At the same time, the analyst assures that he respects the country’s decision to protect young people from war. According to him, the government must give Ukrainian families confidence that their relatives will not end up at the front without proper equipment and training:
