Assad's family bought 20 apartments in the center of Moscow for 40 billion dollars – FT – World
Real estate deals are the result of Western sanctions against the Assad family, said the Russian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Relatives of the Syrian dictator Bashar Assad bought at least 20 luxury apartments in Moscow City for a total of about 40 million dollars. Real estate was purchased between 2013 and 2019 through offshore companies controlled by members of the dictator's family.
This was reported by the Financial Times with reference to documents obtained by the anti-corruption organization Global Witness.
The 19 apartments bought by the Assad family are located in the territory of Moscow-City – the business district of the Russian capital. According to information from documents obtained by anti-corruption officers, the owner of 13 objects directly or through controlled companies is the cousin of the Syrian president, Hazif Makhlouf.
