Whether the Russians will attack Pokrovsk is a closed question, but how they will do this should be determined in the coming weeks.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian military launched a counterattack and regained recently lost positions near the village of Velyka Novoselka in the south of the Donetsk region. This was one of several counterattacks by the Defense Forces in recent days, but this section of the front is not really critical for either Ukraine or Russia.
Forbes analyst David Ax writes about this. He emphasized that the Kremlin was focusing on capturing the fortified city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. The UK Ministry of Defense claims that the Russian Federation is gradually approaching Pokrovsk – now the Russians are only 4 miles (about 6.5 km) from it.
