More than 70% of Ukrainians are for gradual entry into NATO according to the West German model,
Germany became a member of NATO back in 1955, but the eastern lands of the country were able to join the Alliance only after the reunification of Germany in 1990.
70.3% of Ukrainians surveyed support the idea of Ukraine’s gradual entry into NATO, the starting point of this model being the West German one. This is stated in the results of a national survey commissioned by the New Europe Center.
“70.3% of Ukrainians support the idea of Ukraine’s gradual entry into the Alliance, when NATO invites Ukraine within internationally recognized borders (and Article 5 of the Washington Treaty will apply to the entire state, except for temporarily occupied territories),” the survey results say.
