Australia plans to purchase more than 200 US cruise missiles.
Australia has become the third country in the world after the United States and Great Britain to acquire and adopt the Tomahawk cruise missile, and has already successfully tested it, the country's Ministry of Defense reports.
The first Tomahawk missile was launched by the Hobart-class destroyer during testing off the West Coast of the United States.
The Ministry of Defense said that thanks to the increased range of up to 2,500 km, the Tomahawk allows for precise strikes at long distances against ground targets. The presence of this missile, the department says, significantly improves the country's ability to “counter any potential threat and ensure the safety of Australians.”
