North Korea has an aging aircraft fleet, which includes 18 MiG-29s and 34 Su-25s, received back in the 1980s, so receiving more modern aircraft will increase the level of North Korean aviation.
Russia plans to transfer MiG-29 and Su-27 fighter jets to North Korea in exchange for soldiers that the DPRK will provide to support Russian forces in the war zone.
This was stated by Admiral Samuel Paparo, the head of the US Indo-Pacific Command, during a speech at the Reagan National Defense Forum, Aviation Week reports.
According to Paparo, although these aircraft do not belong to the fifth generation, they remain powerful combat units. In addition to aircraft, North Korea is likely to receive technologies for the production of ballistic missiles and air defense systems from Russia.
