The telecom operator has implemented a digital solution for assessing the carbon balance on Sakhalin

MegaFon will help the climate center of Sakhalin State University, based on big data, to monitor the level of absorption and emissions of greenhouse gases in the coastal marine zone of Aniva Bay in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk. The digital solution will allow the region to use the data obtained to form the carbon balance of Sakhalin.

The operator and university scientists are implementing an experimental project at a marine carbon test site*, which is based on monitoring the soil-water-atmosphere ecosystem, as well as assessing natural carbon emissions.

As part of the cooperation, MegaFon installed a system of 12 automatic observation posts at the test site, connected to autonomous power from solar panels. All of them are equipped with instruments for determining the concentration of carbon dioxide…
