President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration next month, multiple sources told CBS News, and inauguration officials plan to attend the swearing-in ceremony of additional foreign dignitaries.
Sources said Trump had invited Xi in early November, shortly after the election, but it was unclear whether he had accepted the invitation. A spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington did not comment on this information.
In addition to Xi, the president-elect's team disrupted an opportunity to host other leaders at the Capitol on January 20. Hungary's far-right leader, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has a warm relationship with Trump and visited him in March.
