Tomorrow, December 13, in the Orthodox calendar the day of memory of the holy martyrs Eustratia, Eugenia, Auxentia, Mardaria, Orestes. Eustratius was one of the high-ranking persons in the city of Sevastia (now the territory of Turkey). He was a secret Christian, but publicly confessed his faith when he saw the courage of other martyrs. He was arrested, tortured and burned alive by order of the ruler.
Eugene was a deacon who also lived in Sevastia. He was arrested for preaching Christianity. After torture, he remained true to his faith and was executed by the sword. Auxentius was a Roman soldier. After he professed Christianity, he was subjected to severe torture. Auxentius was sentenced to death by strangulation…
