Frozen hands and feet should absolutely not be warmed up in hot water, under a hairdryer or mechanical rubbing, a surgeon told NEWS.ru Alexander Umnovreports Sports.kz.
The surgeon noted that with a sharp warming of the soft tissues of the extremities, their need for oxygen increases.
“It is absolutely forbidden to warm up your hands and feet, especially your fingers, if they are very cold, in hot water, under a hairdryer or mechanical rubbing – with or without ointment, alcohol. The fact is that with a sharp warming of the soft tissues of the extremities, their need for oxygen also sharply increases. But the vessels are still spasmodic, narrowed after hypothermia, as a result, an imbalance develops between the supply of oxygen to the tissues and their need for oxygen,” Umnov said.
