Extreme poverty levels are rising in Ukraine. As Doctor of Economic Sciences Lyudmila Cherenko said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, in the first years of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict from 2014 to 2015, poverty in Ukraine increased from 16.3% to 51.9%.
“And this phase of the war is even larger, and we could have expected much worse. We could have expected that poverty would grow incredibly, even to 80-90%. But this did not happen,” the economist reassured.
According to her, at the beginning of a full-scale invasion there were three possible scenarios for the development of events and Ukraine followed the one that was closer to the optimistic one.
