The security service eliminated another scheme to extort money from relatives of Ukrainian soldiers who are in captivity or disappeared at the front and detained a fraudster who demanded UAH 1 million from the wife of a captured defender of Azovstal and promised to exchange it.

This became known from the statement of the SBU.

“According to the results of comprehensive measures, the Main Department of Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a criminal in Kyiv region who was “making money” from the relatives of the defenders of Mariupol,” the message reads.

The fraudster promised to help with the return of Ukrainian defenders home and demanded money to allegedly speed up the process.
