Don't exercise to lose weight – you'll be disappointed – Health

The Telegram channel “Doctor's Notes” explained why playing sports solely for the sake of losing weight is a bad idea, Sports.kz reports.

“Many people, looking to shed those extra pounds, lace up their running shoes and start (or resume) exercise regimens. Of course, being more active is a good thing. But if the main reason for exercising is the desire to lose weight, then they may not have the best effect.

For starters, exercise—at least the kind that most of us do—is generally ineffective for weight loss. Let's take walking for example. A 70-pound person who walks briskly for 30 minutes burns about 140 calories on average. That's the equivalent of one can of soda—not a particularly impressive return on your investment of time and effort. It's much easier to just give up soda.
