Next year, Ukraine will spend 10 times more on defense than NATO countries


Ukraine allocates about a quarter of its GDP for defense next year.

In 2025, Ukraine will spend about a quarter of GDP on defense – this is ten times more than the average of European NATO allies, which should increase their military budgets.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels during a keynote speech entitled “To prevent war, we must spend more” in front of the audience of the Carnegie Europe think tank, writes Ukrinform.

“Just now, as we speak, Ukraine is spending about a quarter of its own GDP on defense next year, more than 10 times the spending of its European NATO allies. It's a stark reminder that freedom doesn't come for free. If we don't spend together now to prevent war, we will pay a much, much, much higher price later…
