Peanut, the squirrel who became famous on social media, was euthanized after being seized during a raid by New York authorities.

Seven years ago, Mark Longo saved Peanut when he saw her mother get hit by a car in New York.

The unusual animal, who has more than 751,000 followers on Instagram, was seen wearing a cowboy hat, munching on waffles, jumping through hoops and sitting on the 34-year-old's shoulder.

But after a series of anonymous complaints, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) removed the furry, along with a raccoon named Fred, from Longo's home in Pine City. Both animals were euthanized, the DEC and Chemung County Health Department confirmed.
