From Monday, December 16, a state of emergency in the energy sector is being introduced in Moldova for 60 days due to the risk of stopping Russian gas supplies to the unrecognized Transnistria. The corresponding government proposal was approved by the country's parliament, reports the Moldovan service of Radio Liberty.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean explained that such a measure is necessary because Gazprom may stop gas supplies to the left bank of the Dniester. This, in turn, could lead to a humanitarian crisis in the region, because the Kuchurgan station, in the territory of the unrecognized Transnistria, supplies gas at cheap rates and provides about 70% of the country’s internal needs.
