How to correctly call a bean in Ukrainian
This word has several good Ukrainian counterparts.
Bean is tracing paper from the Russian language. There is no such word in the Ukrainian language, a it is correct to say beans.
Bean is a garden herbaceous annual plant of the legume family, which has oval grains in its pods.
We borrowed the name of this plant from Middle High German, but Greek and Latin roots are also visible here, so we can safely talk about the Mediterranean origin of the word.
In Ukraine, you can still hear the following names, including dialect ones:
- horseradish
- password
- the top of the bean is called a pod
