The culprit is the climate.

“Enjoy your chili while it lasts, because we don't know when it's going to run out,” say sauce and spice makers.

They are reducing production, in particular, of chili sauces by 25%.

Culprit? Climate change. Extreme weather conditions in key chili-growing regions this year have disrupted supplies, pushed up prices and, worst of all, made the peppers taste bland.

“As the pepper begins to absorb a lot of excess moisture, it deposits it in the flesh of the fruit. Because of this, the sharpness becomes blurred,” says agroecologist Craig Craft from the United States.

Scientists say that such a situation, when climate change affects the taste of crops, is not the first time. So, for example, coffee beans become more bitter, and coconuts become softer…
