The reason for the accident of the Russian tankers was violations on the part of the sailors, as well as the age of the vessels.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, the spokesman of the Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, commented on the death of two Russian tankers near the Kerch Strait, saying that the real cause of the tragedy was not weather conditions, but gross violations by Russian sailors.
He reported this in a comment to “Kyiv 24”.
“These vessels are actually river vessels. Their task is to pull this fuel oil and petroleum products from the Volga and transship them to other ships already somewhere in the sea. They can theoretically go to sea, but under different conditions,” Pletenchuk explained.
According to him, during the storm, the waves and wind exceeded the permissible standards for these vessels. Their age — more than 50 years old — became an additional problem.
“For such an age… these vessels should already be decommissioned. They violated basically everything they could,” he emphasized…
