Perfume from luxury brands can damage DNA and lead to infertility and obesity, SE reports citing the New York Post.
The main culprit of the negative impact is phthalate, which is found not only in perfumes, but also in products such as nail polishes, hair sprays and shampoos.
“Phthalates are substances that can disrupt the endocrine system and affect the hormonal and cellular functions of the reproductive organs. Research has shown that high levels of phthalates are associated with an increased risk of infertility, poor sperm quality, decreased egg efficiency and miscarriages,” said endocrinologist Laura Shaheen.
The doctor also noted that in men, phthalates affect the quality of semen, and in women, on the ovulation process.
