The head of a US-based Syrian human rights group, Mouaz Mustafa, has announced the discovery of a mass grave near Damascus, where he says at least 100,000 victims tortured by the former government of President Bashar al-Assad are buried.
According to Reuters, Mustafa spoke about a place in the El-Qutaif area, which is 40 kilometers from the capital of Syria.
He stressed that this figure is the “most conservative estimate” and that there could be many more mass burials in the country.
“One hundred thousand is a very, very conservative estimate,” said Mustafa, head of the Syrian Emergency Task Force.
