In Zimbabwe, sex workers use baby socks instead of condoms

Sex workers in Zimbabwe say that condom shortages in some communities have forced them to resort to non-traditional methods of contraception, including baby socks.

Although the government denies a national condom shortage, there are reports of local supply problems.
The condom shortage has been attributed to several factors, including delays in restocking by medical facilities, hoarding by some sex workers, and misappropriation of condoms by medical workers.
Particularly affected are communities such as Epworth, Mutare, Masvingo, Harare and Seke, where sex workers are raising the alarm about the dire situation.
