Scientists have found a vulnerability in antibiotic-resistant bacteria
Researchers have found out why some bacteria adapt more quickly to antibiotics.
Scientists have discovered an important vulnerability in bacteria resistant to antibiotics. This discovery could improve the effectiveness of already existing drugs.
This was reported by Technische Universität Dresden.
The study reveals the genetic mechanisms that ensure the resistance of bacteria to medicines. In particular, scientists found out why some bacteria quickly adapt to antibiotics, while others lag behind.
“Our work is focused on the integron system, a genetic toolkit that bacteria use to adapt to their environment by exchanging genes, including antibiotic resistance genes,” noted Professor Didier Mazel, head of the research group at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
