Ukraine could hardly keep nuclear weapons, says Ukrainian historian and public figure Vladimir Vyatrovich. And in his opinion, there are two reasons for this. He said this on Hromadsky’s podcast.

Because Ukraine was a far-western Soviet republic, he said, it was a key staging area for Russia to deploy weapons “in case a major war broke out with Western forces.” From here, strategic missiles, he noted, “were aimed, in particular, at the United States of America, at Washington, and Philadelphia.”
