Newly elected US President Donald Trump spoke with Putin on Thursday. It was their first telephone conversation since Trump won the election.

The Washington Post writes about this, citing people familiar with this conversation. Trump advised the Kremlin ruler not to “escalate” the war in Ukraine and also reminded him of the significant US military presence in Europe.

“The two men discussed the goal of peace on the European continent, and Trump expressed interest in further conversations to discuss a 'quick resolution to the war in Ukraine,'” some of these people said.
