Baking with poppy seeds is very popular among Ukrainians.

Long ago, the poppy was for our ancestors a magical plant that symbolized infinity and protected against evil forces. In addition, Ukrainians prepared many dishes with poppy seeds. Especially at Christmas.

Ingredients for the dough

• 250 g of wheat flour
• 20 g of sugar
• 7 g of dry yeast
• 20 g of butter
• 150 ml of cream 10%
• one egg + one yolk

Ingredients for the filling

• 300 g of poppy
• 300 ml of milk
• 100 g of sugar
• 1 egg white

Preparation

1. Mix flour, yeast, salt and sugar in a bowl and add warm cream. Knead the dough with your hands until smooth. Then add melted butter to this mass and knead again.
