On December 25, according to the new church calendar, Orthodox believers celebrate the Nativity of Christ– one of the most important holidays. It belongs to the twelve and was installed in memory of the birth of Jesus Christ. We talk about the traditions, signs and prohibitions of this date and what church holiday is celebrated today according to the old style.
In 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine switched to a new calendar style – New Julian, therefore non-transitional holidays (with a fixed date) moved 13 days earlier. But some believers continue to adhere to the old style (Julian); its preservation remains the right of religious communities and monasteries.
