Ursa Major – Forbes assessed the consequences for the Russian Federation from the loss of a dry cargo ship – UNIAN
Ursa Major was the largest and most powerful ship in the Kremlin's logistics fleet.
On Christmas Eve, the cargo carrier Ursa Major, operated by a Kremlin military logistics company, sank in the Mediterranean Sea near Spain. As Forbes analyst David Ax writes, the loss of the “unique and difficult to replace” 13,000-ton bulk carrier was a serious blow for Oboronlogistics and the Russian shipbuilding industry.
Ax clarifies that the German-built Ursa Major was only 15 years old, which is very young for a support vessel. The Russian Crisis Management Center noted that the ship experienced an “explosion” in the engine room, after which the ship capsized to starboard and sank.
