Asma al-Assad, the wife of deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, has had a relapse of acute myeloid leukemia.
According to The Telegraph, doctors assessed her chances of survival as “50/50”.
Asma is currently in isolation to avoid infections, while her father, Fawaz Akhras, looks after her daughter in Moscow. According to sources, he is “broken by grief.” We will remind, in May 2024, Asma was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia, and in August 2019, she announced that she had overcome breast cancer after a year of treatment.
In recent weeks, her condition has deteriorated significantly. The publication's sources suggest that Asma could have flown to Moscow for treatment before the Kremlin convinced her husband to leave the country because of the Syrian rebel offensive.
