Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky replaced the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, BILD reports, citing sources in diplomatic circles.
According to the publication’s sources, Zelensky fired Alexei Makeev, who had held this position since September 2022. His successor will be the current Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevgeny Korniychuk.
As BILD notes, the official reason for replacing Makeev is the regular rotation of diplomats. However, as noted in diplomatic circles, this decision could have been influenced by “systematic and public” criticism of Makeev by his predecessor Andrei Melnik. The ex-ambassador of Ukraine to Germany reproached Makeev for insufficient activity and called for more effort in his work.
