An Olympic snowboarder died in an avalanche in Switzerland – UNIAN
Hediger competed in the women's snowboard cross and mixed team version of the same event at the Beijing Olympics.
Olympic snowboarder Sophie Hediger died in an avalanche in Switzerland, the country's ski federation said.
Hediger, 26, a member of the Swiss snowboard team for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, was in the mountain resort of Arosa when the incident occurred, Sky News reported.
“We are shocked and our thoughts are with Sophie's family, to whom we offer our deepest condolences,” Swiss-Ski CEO Walter Reusser said in a statement.
He added that Hediger grew up in Horgen, a town about 20 minutes by car from Zurich, and spent a lot of time in Arosa.
